Guest Jamie MacDougall Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi there. I have an 04 plate 1.4i C3 Desire. When I select reverse gear and then leave the engine idling for a few seconds or longer, the gearbox seems to slip out of reverse and I get a crunching of gears when I try and move off, but all is fine when I put it in neutral, back into reverse then move off straight away. I was thinking possibly a loose locating pin or such like. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Cheers, Jamie Quote

When it happens, the stall is so violent it seems almost as if two gears are are selected at the same time, very scary....... As the car has gotten older, the frequency of this occuring has gotten less. Also I've gotten a sense as to when this is going to happen, and switch off the ignition before it stalls. It's probably happened 10 times in 3 years, half of those within the first year. I've just extended the warranty for another 2 years just in case the gearbox eventually bursts itself.. If you take it into your main dealers I'd be interested to hear their explanation, if they say that this fault has never been reported before, I'll be glad to give them all the details about my car & dates when it was reported to my local Main dealer. Good Luck with it CheersBarryin darkest Basildon, Essex Quote
