Harry Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Hi Everyone, I feel a tad embarrassed that this is my first post..however, I could do with some help or ideas. I had a slow puncture recently and when I fitted the spare wheel, (steel full size) it is touching against the caliper I think (although it might be the disc), in any event it won't spin. I've refitted it a couple of times to no avail. The normal wheels on the car are alloys and I was wondering whether it might be that I need a different set of bolts for the steel wheel, as sometimes alloys require different lengths of bolts. (if so there were none with C5 when I bought it second hand). The Alloys look like the original ones and don't appear to be aftermarket. Of course I might be totally wrong ! Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks H Quote
myglaren Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I think there should be another set of bolts - there is in mine plus a strange yellow thing that fits over a bolt, can't imagine what that could be for. Had mine six months and it is still a bit of a mystery to me. Quote
old'uns Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 bet a blob of weld on spare is catching?if so your calipers are twisted, common problem. corrosion between caliper & brackets causes caliper to twist, more clearance with alloy wheels.search previous threads, been discussed before yellow thing is to remove chrome covers from bolts, spare bolts are prob replaced with locking bolts? Thanks - chrome covers are gone (wondered why they looked so dingy). Locking bolts - hope not as I haven't seen a key for any. New tyres going on soon (maybe today if i can get a Round Tuit) Quote
myglaren Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Discovered a few chrome bolt covers and the key, for it was indeed fitted with security bolts.Tyre fitter had a terrible struggle replacing the tyres and having no central port in the wheel meant that he couldn't balance the wheels either. Harry Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 Re Spare Wheel - I've been away for a few days so not been able to post - Thanks for the comments, I'll have another look at the inside of the wheel and the caliper, must admit I'd rather it was as simple as a bolt length problem though  Quote
