Hi all.

I have a Xsara 2001 model. The latest of a long line of problems, is the indicator relay switch, where is it!?

The drivers side indicator works whenever it feels like it, even in the off position, which does wonders for road rage directed at me when travelling down the motorway in the rain! The problem does seem worse when there is rain about, so it may be a short somewhere, just thought I would start with the relay. Although it has not rained here all week, I washed the car last night & low & behold, gone out this morning & had to return, as the indicator is permanently on.

This is my fourth citroen over the years & is the worse car for reliability & build quality I have ever owned, anyone else feel the same?

Late reply so I hope you havent been driving for a month with it doing this ;)

This happened to me last week, the part is £60 and on a 2001 is likley to be the easier of the two to replace.

All you need to do is remove the 2 Torx T20 screws that hold the plastic shroud round the steering column pull the covers appart, move the steering wheel 90 degrees left, use a Torx T15 to remove the 2 screws holding the unit in place, slide it out (its on rails) then replace.

And yea its yet another "common fault" my friend at the dealership knows someone who's replaced 1 a year for the last 3 years! its basically a design fault where the mechanism that knocks it off breaks and rattles round causing it to indicate randomly though normally to one side!

xsaras changed in 2001. some have normal switch and some have comms2000. if your radio ctrls are on the steering wheel you will have a normal switch. if there on a stalk under the wiper stalk you will have comms.

Thanks for the two replies.

It was the stalk switch after all, I had to have it done on the quick at a Citroen agents, so it cost £112! We live & learn. ;)
