I bought a Citroen XM 2.1 and found that the temperature light came on after driving the vehicle, which in turn started the fans.

The engine didnt seem to be that hot, but there was a lot of back pressure in the water.

Any Ideas Please.

Thanks

Ooooooh! Sounds to me like you got a split in the head-gasket between the cylinder & the water jacket...get it sorted quick!!

I too had lights and pressure , but no proof of "actual" headgasket failure. trying to tow a caravan eventually made me realise there could be no other option ( it was HOT) . when stripped down the gasket had corroded due to lack of corrosion inhibiter in the coolan, and was blowing on all 4 cylinders , but only a tiny little bit.
