english_monk Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I don't know if anyone can help me! I had my friendly new citroen xsara on saturday after it had a traumatic ride from my brothers house in woodbridge to the midlands when the exhaust fell off. Anyways, the exhaust is all better now but yesterday hubby decided he'd change the battery on the car..... Then the immobilser lost its code or whatever the technical term is for it. A bloke came out to us and got the key re-coded and the car started. But now the car wont start, nor will the lights or windows work. The orange key 'n' card light isn't on though. I know it's gonna have to end up in a garage but was hoping maybe someone may be able to tell what might have happened... Any ideas?? Please help :P Quote

When you turn the key to its 2nd turn what lights do you have? When you say it wont start does it even turn over? does it turn over plenty but not fire up? or does it sort of cough in an attempt but give in? First port of call with all these electrical faults is to go through all the fuses both in the driver side compartment (near the door under your dash) and in the engine bay (usually right hand side next to the battery) Whilst in the engine bay follow the negative earth leads and make sure they are all making good contacts, if where they meet the bodywork its all rusted remove it sand / file it down till its clean and replace it. This should give you some ideas as always more info makes it easier to diagnose, I hope its something simple / easy for you. Quote
english_monk Posted October 7, 2007 Author Posted October 7, 2007 Thanks for your reply James, I shall have a look at the negative wire as you say (or rather hubby shall) The car turns over and sounds like its about to start but just wont. When you try and switch on the engine all of the usual lights come on the dash (apart from the one saying your immobilisers broke!). Thanks again! Quote
