spider.s3 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 i have a 07 C1 which is 6 months old with 3000 miles.i have found the bonnet has loads of stone chips on it now.how are you cars holding up with stone chips.my car is red. Quote
ColinC1 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I have had my red C1 almost a year now and have had only one very small stone chip on the front of the bonnet, which I fixed instantly with Citroen C1 Touchup red part number 9993.45, cost £6.50 if I remember. OK, you can be unlucky with flying chips , BUT, and there is no denying this, the reason why most people end up with loads of bonnet chips (and I am not say this is you), is that they drive too close to the car in front. So the moral is stay well back and you should keep a reasonably chip free bonnet ;) Quote
acra Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I get a fair few stone chips - I think someone has said the paintwork is very thin, so chips tend to show up easier. Quote
ColinC1 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Every time you wash the car, once a week in my case, you inspect the front for stone chips, even the sides as well (usually they would be low down). Buy a Citroen touchup stick for your car colour, and if the chips within a week, you can just cover it with a small touch (dab) of paint, if its longer than that you will need to check for and clean out any starting rust. Martin_1973_uk Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Totally agree, if you dont tailgate you wont get the stone chips in the first place. Although its hard to do if you use the M25 as their is no space I guess........ In four months on my journey I haven't had one yet. Managed 422 miles on £29.00 at 94.9p a mile. Mostly motorway/country lanes with little traffic and a light right foot. Quote
spider.s3 Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 i only use the car at weekends, i dont tailgate. i do 20,000 plus miles ayear in my 406 estate on motorwaysand i would say i get about 6 stone chips ayear that damage the paintwork.I think acra is right, and its down to the coat of paint being so thin.and as it's Red (yellow too) there is no lacquer on the paint like the other colours,to give it that extra clear coat that will help stop the stone chips chipping the colour layer of paint.
