Now then, swmbo has reported occasional bangs under the Pluriel recently. This is not surprising given the state of the roads here in w yorks. The er technician at the dealer said "its the rear shocks" when the car was in for its anti corrosion check. What, with 14k miles on the clock - seems unlikely to me?

So, with one other suspect in mind, I check the large black dangly thingy near the rear offside wheel, and sure enough this can contact the chassis if the various forces on the road combine sufficiently. I took it off to see what could be done, and it weighs a whopping 20Kg!

I have never seen anything like this attached to any car before. I suspect its there to dampen scuttle shake, but iif so ts seems a bit of an aftethought. Perhaps Citroen only discovered the shake on British roads.....Does anyone know better? Its does have a small friend on the other side of the car too.

On a point of maintenance, this object has a recessed top surface, the size of a small cup, and the rubber mounting inside has series of slots in it to allow drainage. These were totally packed with road dust, even at this mileage. I think its important to avoid corrosion here, as the support bracket turned out to be alloy, which usually gets rather unhappy next to steel
