Hi all! I have a Synergie 2.0HDi (2000 reg) Recently my rev counter gauge has started playing up - quite often in the 'red' while still in 1st gear! The engine rev's are normal.

But for a few days now the speedo has stopped working altogether, mileometers work fine.

Today, whilst out the gauge has started moving and has made it up to 90mph. It's now parked on the drive at 40.

So far I've disconnected the battery, checked the fuses, ecu, the sensor by the gearbox, had the dash unit out and checked connections there, (at least I've now been able to change the blown bulbs which the garage were going to charge me £120 to do!)

Can anyone help with any other suggestions - please!

From info posted by other with similar problems one approach seems to be to wait for 15 minutes after the engine has been switched off. Remove the battery leads. Short them together with a resistor between them initially - use a light bulb, for example, then after a few minutes push them together to create a dead short for about fifteen minutes.

Reconnect the leads to the battery and wait half an hour.

Start the car and let it run for at least ten minutes.

Reset all the stuff that needs resetting (radio settings, automatic lights, locks, windows etc).

No guarantee that it will solve the problem, but it might.
