Help: Zx Turbo To Non Turbo Engine

Ok, here's the problem. We have been given an N reg Citroen ZX Turbo that has been standing for six years (the car itself is in pristine condition). When my father had the car, he had a new engine put in it, which is a Citroen Xsara turbo engine. All the running gear is for a turbo engine.

BUT.

The engine is constantly producing gases, which my partner believes to indicate either a cracked head or cracked block (there is a new head gasket on the block, so we have eliminated that as a probable cause). Because we need to get this car on the road as soon as possible, we are considering taking the turbo engine out and replacing it with an XUD9 that we know is sound. How long would a normally aspirated engine last with a turbo on it?

Also, we've tried putting K-Seal into the car, which allegedly will repair a cracked head, but after lulling us into a false sense of security by briefly stopping the gas bubbles, it is now frothing up nicely and the engine is pushing coolant out at a rate of knots again. Has anyone had any experience of this snake oil, and does it actually work?

One other thing. One of the symptons of this sick puppy is that the engine rocks like a chimney stack in a high wind on idle. The more we think about it, the more it's looking like a warped head. Confirmation, anyone?

Any help and advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you all.

UPDATE: We have now got the car going perfectly, so no need for any comments. Not that anyone did...
