Guest ses Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I am about to replace rear discs and pads. Is this as straightforward as with most front cars' fronts or will I have to screw pistons in to compensate for change of pad thickness for the handbrake? Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 If it's anything like the front ones on a Xantia (Handbrake on front wheels) and the ZX Volcane I once worked on doing the same job, then yes you will. However it's not all that difficult, just a bit time consuming if you don't have a wind back tool. There will be 4 slots in the face of the calliper piston which you can use to turn the piston 1/4 turn at a time with something which will fit across the piston between 2 slots (I've used a square file in the past ) Wind the piston back as far as you can and note that there will probably be 2 dimples on the pad which goes on the piston side. These dimples fit into two of the slots in the piston when you re-assemble so ensure the slots are correctly positioned when you put the calliper back on. Incedentally, if you haven't already bought your parts, Citroen are selling brake parts for older cars as cheaply as motor factors and maybe even cheaper. I put rear discs and pads on my Xantia (S plate 110 Hdi) for £35 (Inc VAT) the lot from our local dealer. The same from GSF would have been 0ver £50 plus carriage and vat. Hope this is of help. Quote
