I have a 1999 Xantia Sensation which has done 75,000 & it's had a stiff clutch for some time now.

It got to the point where the pedal was clicking as I pressed it down but that's now stopped.

More worryingly, in the last 3 weeks or so the gear change has become much more stiff & clunky.

I have to really push the gearstick to get it in 1st & 2nd although it seems to ease off intermitently then come back again.

I have a friend who works on my cars & his advice is to try replacing the clutch cable first & see if that improves matters. What I want to avoid though is spending large amounts of money on a car of this age as I have also recently had a replacement exhaust fitted.

Any advice would be much appreciated
