richxantiaman Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Hello everyone, just got my second xantia, after a disastrous Land Rover Discovery sucked all the money out of my wallet! Loads of good information on this forum, thanks to people posting here I've solved one little niggle on my T reg HDi WITH AIR CON!!! (a first for me, poshest car I've ever had!) Got loads of questions but am gonna dig a little deeper on the postings before I ask what may be a silly question eg; Can't find heated rear window switch - Where is it? After half an hour looking gave up and drove to work. Half way there caught wiper stalk funny and hey presto! Rear screen starts to de frost. . . Guest Colin Hunter Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Thanks, Colin, found it! Today put new timing belt, oil + oil filter, air filter, pollen/cabin filter! Took 2 hours to find horn . . . which looks like i'm gonna have to take bumper off to see if it's getting any juice. . . The horn (s) are behind the nearside indicator and is, as you have discovered, a pain in the A**e to get at. I had mine apart as one of the two had failed. It can be done (Painfully!) by removing the indicator on that side and working through the hole but better access may be afforded by taking the headlamp out as well. (I didn't) I certainly didn't have to take the bumper off anyway! Have a look from underneath via the under-tray if neccessary (Can't remember if I did). They've been OK since. If they're goosed and getting juice it may be more cost effective to replace them with aftermarket items (Try Ebay) than from Citroen. If you need any specific info from the handbook drop me a message and I'll photocopy the relevant bit for you. May even be able to find it in PDF if you search the net! Cheers Hope this helps. Quote
richxantiaman Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 Cheers Colin, not had time to get to grips with the horn problem yet . . . been too busy fitting mp3 player . . gotta make the right noises first! :D Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 YO Brother! Know where you're coming from. No point in tryin to make a noise until you've got SOUNDS! Just as a matter of interest , did your car originally have the standard radio/cassette which had steering wheel control? And,does the set you're fitting use the steering wheel interface. I know some do, but it's not my field of knowledge really. I'm more into the grubby bits so to speak! I got round the MP3 "Problem" by buying (What I consider to be) a seriously COOL gizmo called a MOBIBLU Digisette. Mine has 256 Mb internal memory (Later ones had more) and has a MMC slot which they said would support up to another 256. I have a 1 Gb in there at present and it's quite happy. It's the shape of a cassette and behaves exactly like one when it's in the deck. Set the "Tape" going and it will switch on and play from where it left off. switch off the ignition and it just shuts down. You can also use it as a standard MP3 player with headphones and use it to record. Both with an internal mic and as a "Cassette" in a deck it will record from a cd or radio just as a tape will! And ENCODE TO mp3 AT THE SAME TIME. Dogs Bollocks or what! Also has USB to connect to a PC. I can get about 30 0r 40 CDs of music on it so it knocks a 6 disc autochanger into the woods! But, like all good thigs there are drawbacks. When it's in the deck it is a cassette and plays the next track it comes to. you can use the FFWD and RWD buttons to skip one forward or back but that's it. It will do random and album play, but only as an MP3 player Connected to the remote through headphones, not in the deck. The other drawback is that it needs an internal battery. It was supplied with two and a charger and to be fair they'll last about 6/8 hours of playtime. It cost me about £70 a few years ago and is one of the best things I've ever bought! Hope you have as much enjoyment out of your "Sounds" Cheers. Quote
richxantiaman Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Hi, The head unit is a Sony affair (about two years old) which plays mp3's I've burnt to a disk. I think your solution saves money on disks! I also think there is an interface available to facilitate use of steering wheel control, which is more money than it's worth considering my arm is long enough to reach stereo!! Still not got round to horn problem, although know it works when you apply 12v across it, directly. Tested this while GEARBOX was OFF!!! Replacing shattered release bearing which had allowed release fork to swing into pressure plate springs - Thereby banging a bit before locking engine!!What fun that was £105 for clutch kit + £100 bung for fantastic brothers help and spacious heated garage + weekend swearing at car. It's great now though, Apart from the leaking pipes we found . . . oh well . . . MOT not till March . . . Quote
