Guest Kane Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Hi, does any one have any information about the above, replaced all corner spheres and the ride drastically improved. The rear end sinks a little when turned off but not the front. Does the anti-sink sphere and accumulator sphere have any effect on the ride or is it just the corner ones. Cheers in advance. Guest Colin Hunter Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hi. The rear centre sphere is a kind of accumulator for the rear suspension, If the engine is off, as in a filling station, the rear suspension will react and level the car as it is filled (and sinks). However, even if it's had it, the car will self level as soon as you start up. It is an MOT advisory/fail if it's too rusty though. Both are a sort of "Reservoir", a bit like a battery, in that they provide hydraulic power in the event of engine failure, The front one, on the engine, will provide power to brake the car if you have an engine failure at speed. They don't affect the ride quality as the front and rear height correctors isolate them from the system once the vehicle is at the correct height. The height corectors are "Shuttle" valves which let fluid into and out of, the front and rear systems as they react to increasing and decreasing load. (People getting in/out) Once the car is "on the level" only the suspension spheres react, same as the springs in a "Normal" car only better. The height correctors also are linked to the lever between the seats and raise and lower the car as required. Don't worry if the car sinks a little, you can change the rear centre sphere if it makes you feel better and will probably cure it. Won't affect that "Magic" ride though" Cheers, And welcome to the world of REAL cars! :D Quote
Guest Kane Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Thanks again Colin for your in-depth reply. Followed your advice on the discs and pads, also changed the drop links as they had some play! Car drives so well now and I can stop! (GSF have a winter offer on: £11.25 per disc, £18 set of front pads, £8 per drop link). Once again thanks. Quote

The 90's have similar front brakes to the old 1.9 tds and are MUCH cheaper. The 110s are the same as the 2.0 Turbo petrol and 3.0 V6. Last time I changed them it was £78 for the discs (Pair)and £35 for the pads. The whole lot for the TD would have been abot £60! That was from Citreon right enough but they were actually cheaper than GSF at that time and I didn't have to pay Freight! A motor Factor in Aberdeen quoted me £88 and £38. I daresay they are a lot cheaper now that the cars are discontinued. Cheers. Quote
Guest Kane Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hi Colin, mine is the 90BHP. (W reg 2000) Couldn't believe the price of them when I went into GSF, they said that they had just brought out their winter catalogue! The model quoted by the catalogue is Xantia 2.0 HDi 2000 (doesn't state 90 or 110 bhp)-Oil Filter £3.90-Fuel Filter £9.85-Air Filter £4.90-Pollen Filter £10.45-Engine oil £10.70 (Quartz 7000 semi synth)-Glow Plugs £6.05 each-Timing belt kit £58.00-Brake Discs £11.25 each-Brake Pads £18.50 (front)-Clutch £96.00-Headlamp £86.00-Mirror LH RH £25.00-Starter Motor £75.00Plus VAT. Good prices I think, glad I bought my Xantia paid £600 for it with 91500 miles on the clock with 2 owners. Changed the discs/pads, drop links, and the spheres all for under £140! Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Yes, good prices right enough. Just as a matter of interest, how near was I with the brakes? I do know they're different but I've never done a 90 and it's 5 years since I sold the 1.9 td. My memory is not up to that kind of challenge any more! Cheers! Quote
Guest Kane Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Hi, good instructions. The pin I had to remove was a sliding version with a clip holding it in, was really difficult to knock it through! The discs were pretty straight forward just two grub screws to undo in order to remove, had to use an impact screwdriver in order to loosen them! The stop light and temp gauge light seems to flash now and again with the rad fans coming on even when cold! Would that be the temp sensor causing it? If so do you know where it is located. Thanks again for your help. Quote
