rich1belfast Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hi guys, this is my first time on this site and i'm here 'cause i can't seem to resolve a problem with my 1998 Citroen Xsara 1.9TD. My speeodometer isn't working- my mechanic has replaced the speed head and fitted a new set of speedo clocks and still it doesn't register the speed when i'm driving. He contacted a Citroen dealer and they told him that he did exactly what they would have done! However, the local breakers seem to be sold out of speedo clocks for this model, so i'm guessing that this is a common fault in this model? Everything else on the dashboard is working, just the speed clocks! I would be grateful if anyone has come across this problem and can suggest a way of fixing it. Thanks Quote
Guest rowls Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 have you tried the electric speed sensor located in the gearbox housing by the diff? Quote
Jonno Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 have you tried the electric speed sensor located in the gearbox housing by the diff? It's probably more likely to be the sped sensor, as you say, not giving a pulse signal to the speedo head. Check the wiring to it too - make sure all connections are tight and clean and that the cables haven't been trapped/chafed anywhere. They perhaps operate on very low voltages and as such any corrosion of the contacts could lead to bad readings.Apologies in advance for this late reply to the post (note to self - must look at posted dates first :( ) Quote
