Guest Kane Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Hi, I'm looking to change the anti-sink sphere on my W-plate HDi Xantia. I've heard about the pipe that needs to be disconnected from it before removal. Is it an easy job to remove the pipe, will it leak fluid etc. Does anyone have a step by step procedure for doing the job? Thanks in advance. Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Can't help you here Kane! Mine's well past it's sell by date as well! I'm giving the job to my local car Guru! I'll ask him what he did and let you know if you can wait. Mine's been Egdom Callas (Polite way of saying it has been rendered inoperable by repeated short jerky movements! ) for some time but I reckon I'll pay the guy his dues as he's got the lift and I haven't! I know when I'm beat (Read can't be Ar**d!) Lying on my back getting LHM in my eyes doesn't really float my boat (anymore!) for some peculiar reason! OK (Click) Serious mode! Having looked at it I can't see why it can't be changed like any other sphere unless there's a pipe which will be fouled as it is unscrewed. Just make sure you have the other end (the housing) held securely so you don't damage anything. You could also operate the height control after de-pressurising to ensure the thing's empty before you tackle it! Cheers! Quote
Guest Kane Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Thanks Colin, not in any major rush to do it. Will wait to see if your garage can give any tips. Got a sphere removal tool which makes removing them easy (even the back ones!), just a bit cautious about this pipe. Cheers. Quote

Hi. about the removal of the anti-sink sphere the small pipe has to be removed before you unscrew the sphere you wont lose very much fluid but you might find it quite hard to pull the pipe out of the sphere other than that it is an easy job. allan Quote
cpt_spalding Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 just a bit cautious about this pipe. Cheers. Quite correct to be cautious! I know from my own car & from another forum that this pipe can be very fragile. If it does crack while removing it, it will need replacing all the way back to the pump. Didn't do it myself as I no longer have the time or space to work on my own car but it just cost me 2 hours from my local specialist to replace the pipe. :( Quote
theoldsilverfox Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Hi, I'm looking to change the anti-sink sphere on my W-plate HDi Xantia . . . . Hi there. As an ex-BX owner I am wondering if, like the BX you need to de-pressurise the system after lowering the suspension to the lowest setting before you disconnect anything, especially spheres, or you will have quite a shock! Slacken the nut on the regulator - but DON'T remove it - and the pressure will release - then is safe to work on it! Quote
