I am having a speedometer cluster problem. I bought the car with 29k miles on. 1 month later after 2 cold mornings the speedometer needle stopped working. Everything else works on it. the mileometer etc stills works 100% fine. the needle stopped working competely and now 2 months on its the cold weather and every now and then ( when its cold morning or night ) the needle seems to want to work but dont. would this be a loose wiring problem or do i need a new clock? also will i keep the mileage and do i need it programmed in ?

Might be worth checking the speed sensor in the gearbox (think its located at the back of the gearbox by the diff)

Hi,

I had the same problem on my 2001 2.0HDi in March 2007. I took it to my local independent garage and they told me it was the speedo that had gone, but because it was an 'all in one unit' I had to change the whole instrument cluster at a cost of £220 + labour!

Problem was fixed but was expensive just to fix the speedo.
