BrentC4 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Hey All........ I have A C4 VTR, Recently I took out the cat, this has given me a Fault a few weeks later. The error on the sreen is displayed as "Anti pollution Faulty". Does any one know of this error and how it can be sorted or even cleared permently. Kind regards BrentC4  Quote
iannez Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 you are getting the fault because you have an oxygen sensor on each side of the cat so the one on the back is sensing that the harmful emission's has not been removed from the exhaust gasses. the easiest fix would be to replace the cat. can you even notice the difference after its been removed. i know with the vag group cars a stage 2 remap puts the light out. wozza Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Had it a couple times with mine but turning off and back on again usually sorts it. I put it down to a sensor glitch. Otherwise the car is no different you just get that annoying beep with the message and thats it nothing else. Quote
iannez Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 done loads of pollution faults lately wozza and they were all down to the coolant temp sensor cracking. if this is the case with yours it would pay to have it checked as the coolant can work its way up the inside of the wires (pulmonary effect) to the ecu and cause a fire. BrentC4 Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 Wats up... Thanks For all the suggestions but im not putting the cat back, about this stage 2 remap of the E.C.U, I take it the Citroen Garage wont do it for me....... Quote

Not had it give me a message about it in months. Only done it twice since I had the car got them to check it once and they found nothing wrong. Car is going in for new CV boot soon anyway so will get it checked then. Quote
BrentC4 Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Hey All.... I got the prob fixed, all I had to do was get the error cleared. so I took it to a mate of mine pluged his PC into the car and boom cleared the error, since then no more probs... Quote
pmcdee Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I've had a series of apparently random problems, of which the latest was the depollution fault. It happened on Christmas eve as I was about to drive down to Nottingham. I called the the garage hoping they would take a look at it, but they were just shutting down for the holiday. I was told not to worry about it if the car was running ok, so I drove South acutely aware of the orange light on the dash. At the same time the air conditioning went totally haywire. Later that evening both problems disappeared. Prior to this, I'd just got my car back from the garage on the previous Friday when they had investigated a "Water in Diesel" problem. Apparently the C4 VTS doesn't have a sensor for this, so I was somewhat surprised. At the same time they checked out the coolant system as I'd had a message saying "Coolant Low", but they could find no fault. I've also had problem with the boot remaining locked when I stop until I relock the car and try again. On another occasion I was driving when suddenly an alarm goes off to tell me that the passenger isn't wearing a seat belt. I didn't have a passenger. My first problem was the worst though, and I can't help wondering if they're all related. My car refused to start one afternoon at a motorway services in Germany. (Citroen Assist had never heard of me, and later on, when they had heard of me, they briefly lost my car!) They replaced a valve (On my return I was told the valve had already been replaced as part of a product recall.) Just before I was due to return the car broke down again with the same problem. The Citroen garage Auto Rau in Ruedesheim were superb, and put all hands to the deck to get me on the road again before the bank holiday on the next day. As I understood it, there was an intermittent communication problem between control units on the car, and if I was staying longer, they would replace the LAN cable. (The complete wiring harness I think?) On my return to England they updated the software on the car and told me it was fixed. About a month later, the problem happened again. So, while my current garage is being very helpful, they suggest they need to see the fault to diagnose it. (For other reasons entirely I recently changed garages... but that's a real horror story.) My manaufacturer's warranty is rapidly running out and I fear I may have to change the C4 before it becomes a liability, which is a shame, as for all its faults, it is a wonderful car. Quote
Guest SueJ Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I have a VTR+ 1.6 HDI which I purchased direct from Citroen UK via my local dealer in Jan 07. In March 07 the depollution system faulty light came on. My car has now been back to the dealer at least 6/7 times with the same problem I'm starting to get seriously cheesed off with keep taking the car back into the garage, getting a another car, then gettingmine back - only to have the fault come back in a couple of weeks! I took it to a Peugeot dealer who plugged my car into the computer and came up with the Turbo pressure sensor being faulty - passed this information through to the garage who advised me they will be changing the Turbo next! This isn't held in stock by Citroen UK so will be at least 14 days to come from France. In the meantime the light is on, the power is down and the fuel economy is getting worse. I love this car but am becoming convinced I've got a Friday at 4pm car! Really not sure what to do if after this lastest attempt it carries on! Any ideas? Quote
BrentC4 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Hey everyone This seems to be a common fault with Citroen. The way I had my problem fixed, I took it to a backyard mechanic, he connected a computer to it which read out all the problems, he then cleard all problems...............touch wood they dont come back. Check ya Quote
Guest SueJ Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Thanks Brent C4 - I've lost count on how many times mine has been "reset" by the computer! Why we have to be so technical - bring back mini's with distributer caps and the only problem was the need to carry WD40 in the rain! Here's hoping the new turbo fixes it or you might here the explosion throughout the world...... :D Quote
BrentC4 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Hey All The explosion might get Citroen to reconsider the desining of the car...... Quote
