If anyone can help me I'd seriously be tempted to kiss you a million times. I have a 99 Saxo East Coast so no scary electrics cos everything is manual, no power steering etc. My fan belt was squeaking really badly a few days ago, I went over a speed bump...errr at speed. The noise went but the battery light was constantly illuminated and now I can't hold any charge and my car is now looking a bit forlorn stuck on my father-in-laws drive. Has my fan belt broken? Or is it a new alternator? Whatever it is is it easy to fix and how much ish would it cost? Any advice would be lovely!

Best thing to do would be to look at the alternator to see if the belt has snapped or come off (which it sounds like as your battery light is staying on!) If the belt was squeeling quite bad it would suggest that the belt was loose or worn anyway. if it is just the belt they arent that dear to buy (probably between £5 - £10 max) same belt as Cit ax, not much of a job to change either as the car wont have PAS or A/C!
