thallow Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hello, hope somebody can help me please, I have a P plate 1.9 TD and am having major issues with the electrics! Mainly the RPM needle moves in time with the windscreen wipers, the horn also makes the RPM needle jump, the radio started changing volume as I turned corners and now wont go above a certain volume and the windscreen washer does not work. Finally last week the dashlights started to dim in time with the wipers (as well as the rpm counter) and then they blew their fuse. Is there a quick fix for all of this, I think they are all related but haven't a clue where to start? Thanks in advance for any info! Quote

Other than these dodgy electrics it is an awesome car for driving up and down the m'ways, goes great and is really econimical (I just need a big flower on the front that squirts water!!! :D and it will be complete! Guest Colin Hunter Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 See Willie! "It's" Starting to grow on you! You'll soon be dreaming about "HER"! :) You could always call her "Patsy" After Patsy Cline. "Sweet dreams of you"! :) Seriously though, it sounds very like an earth problem somewhere. These things can throw up the wierdest symptoms. I had an Opel Kadett once (Same same MK1 Astra) which would put on the wipers when you switched on the lights. It was a dodgy earth down behind the headlamps. It was just a spade connector slid onto a folded out piece of the car's steel structure. I cleaned it up and it was ok for a while. When it played up the 2nd time I remade it properly with a screw and a couple of nuts and a crimp terminal. No further trouble. If you have a wiring diagram follow it out to see if there are any common earth points in the affected circuits. Could be that the earth is not making properly and "Backfeeding" the other circuits. Cheers Hope this helps. :P Quote

I must admit my initial thought was an earth issue and a few other people have said the same also; I must admit I have not really spent a lot of time lookng for it (where do you even begin!!!) I just know I could lose hours trying to find it! Still now this seems to be the main opinion so that is where I will focus my efforts! Thanx again! Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Don't know if you've got any farther with this one, but I have to say it's intrigued me. Having had a look at the circuit diagrams I have discovered a link between some of the components which have been giving you greif. You guessed, a common earth point! Citroen make use of "Earth equipotential posts" and the horns, Wipers and instrument panel all earth through one labelled B002 on the drawings. Where it is I couldn't say but behind the dash somewhere would be my guess. Try asking your local dealers if they know where it is. What will have happened is that the earth wire from the post to the car's chassis has corroded or something and is not providing an earth path. I'm not sure, but I think the radio problem is unconnected and may be down to the steering wheel controlls. Possibly one of the remote wires has worn through in the column causing a fault. Take out the radio and unplug the remote interface plug. There are (Should be) 3. One is for power, one for Speakers etc and the other is the remotes. If the radio works OK with the plug out you've found the culprit. Couldn't find a connection for a squirty flower though! Cheers and happy festives. :) Quote

I am travelling in it for xmas so I am not too keen to start taking the dash apart just yet!!! Although I will certainly be doing some digging when I get back, thankx very much for the pointer though, good xmas to you too!Cheers Mate Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 If You don't have a manual or Diagrams, have a look here. http://my.opera.com/Brecknaheim/blog/ Have a look at my online pics while you're at it. Cheers. And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Quote
