Power Steering Faliure - Help Needed

thanks for the tip. Tomorow is the D-Day. I have reserved a time for Testing on monday. Tomorow I will get up early and renew the LHM (first I will check the condition), I will also clean the filters. If the steering doesnt improve. I will try searching for that universal joint. I dont think that the pump is that because when I exercize my car (min max min max) it does it preaty well.

Well yesterday I took the resorvoir out and cleaned the filters with a toothbrush and clean petrol. I also changed the LHM. No effect. Today I went to test the car and it failed the test. Because steering is stiff. There were also a couple of other things. The front left position light and the exhaust system is not fixed well to the bottom of the car. He also told me that the front wheel on the drivers side is a bit shaky an that i should fix that.

 

Also after changing the LHM I went driving and i Noticed a metal on metal sound. Lol dont know how thats sad. Only when I tourn hard to the left. And also sometiems when I break.

 

I have to fix the steering wheel. I will try see if the universal joint is ok. Does anybody have any directions.

 

Also now I am sure that the temperature of the car plays a role in the steering problem. Yesterday was quite a nice and a warm day and the steering was much less stiff at starting and not far from perfect after I warmed the car by driving. TOday it was colder and the steering was bad at starting but improved after I raised the temperature of the car.

It is the universal joint. I drove the car to a citroen servic and asked them to find the problem and tell me how much would the repair cost.

 

The steering problem:

Universal joint or as it called in german "Kreuzgelenk" if i had to translate this to English, I would say Cross hinge/link. They sad that the part costs 240 € and the installation 350 €.

 

The front left wheel problem (not well fixed) + probably the sound of squeking)

The part of the wheel that has litle metal spheres and lots of oil/fet- the part that allows the tourning of the weels.

part 125 € instalation 110 €.

Does anybody have instructions how to install this part. I would like to do it myself. Have a month for it. I plann to find the part on the internet and order it. Is there any in UK availlable?

So if I got it right i need numbers 6 and 5. If I understood it well, there are two universal joints. One betwean 6 and 5 and one betwean 6 and 14? I am not quite sure wich one is damaged. And one more problem, as I order most of the stuff from germany, i dont know the german names of those parts.

 

Acording do Heynes:

If any damage or wear is found on the steering column universal joints or shaft bushes, the column must be renewed as an assembly.

 

Any help would be welcome

Hi Darko,

The universal joint that went on mine is the one that you say, between 5 and 6. The column was not replaced as a whole, as far as I am aware, as my mechanic showed me the defective part. Sorry I can`t tell you how to go about changing it though. As for your noise, that sounds like a wheel bearing has collapsed, if you have access to a set of pullers it should not be too difficult a job. I now have my car back and the steering is wonderful, however I think I may still have a leak somewhere. Hope this is of some use to you and I hope that you get it sorted.
