matija.dam Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I know subject sounds stupid but hear me out. I bought new Xara Picasso without radio, bought Kenwood radio, plug it in, everything worked fine, for about 2min and than it turns off by it self (the car is not running at the time) until I put the key back in or open a door, after that it works again for about 2min or as long the car is running and about 2min after that. All this doesn't sound abnormal, but the problem is that car is cutting off constant battery power to Radio (I suppose Dashboard all together) after this 2min inactivity and resets my radio (all is reset to factory settings). I wonder if there is a way to do something about it besides rewiring of the system (connecting radio to constant battery power manualy) since this car is brand new and he still has warranty I don't want to loose. Thank you for your help. Matija.dam Quote
daffy4895 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I had a similar thing when i had my pug 106 and a kenwood stereo a few years back. at the back of the radio should be a yellow and red wire with connectors in them, what you need to do is put the red wire into the yellow wire and the yellow one into the red wire. the wires to swap are the ignition wire and the battery wire as shown in this picture, this should be mentioned in your kenwood manual. once done this it should stop the problems. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f54/daffy4895/kenwood.jpg Quote

I even joined these two conectors (likke is said in the kenwood manual) and burned out a car fuse :-( don't want this to happen again. Maybe some other suggestion? Thx in advance Quote
daffy4895 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 only other thing i think may work is if your stereo has an option to turn accessory mode on/off. I have this on my panasonic radio, which stops the radio from turing off after a few mins, I'm not sure if this is a feature on kenwood radios. You'll need to check your manual Quote
PaulCartwright Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 it could be the BSI turing the power off to the radio after a certain time does it turn off when your driving along if it does then i would say its a problem with the radio itself my c3, c5('s) all turn the radio off after so long to save the cars battery but it doesnt do it when the car is running that probably doesnt help Quote
iannez Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 you need an adapter harness from a dealer. your new radio is not letting the bsi go to sleep so its just shutting its self down after 2 min. its detecting current drain when you open a door etc and powering back up sending a live to your set which is turning it back on. Thx guys. I believe Jannez is the closest to a solution in my case. Most likely the adapter of some sort will fix my problem, but I don't know which one. I don't have a problem with radio turning off or on when I open dors and such (I am quite discipline and always take the cover off when leaving my car), I just don't want reset to factory setting every time I leave my car for more than 2 minutes. I will look up the solution with my car dealer and hope he will have a solution for me (I know I would win eventualy if I start the war with wireing but I don't want to mess up with brand new car's waranty). thx once more and I wish you a good time on your back seat :-) Still: if somebody have a quick practical solution, I would appreciate sharing it. iannez Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 if you want a quick fix just use the iso speaker socket and tuck the power one out of the way. remove the steering cowls and find perm live, ign live and a earth. splice into them and run 3 new wires to your set. your set should have 2 inline fuses but if not just fit 2. simple as that.
