Guest BrianH Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 First post, so play nice... :D I've searched the forum, and this appears to be a relatively common issue, but I couldn't find a fix :D I've had my 54 plate Xsara Desire 1.4 for just over two weeks, and last night after the windscreen demisted I turned the fan control from the auto position to "0", which has up till now switched the fan off. Now it won't go off unless I turn off the ignition. Is there an easy fix, or is it a back to dealer job? At least I got a warranty with it... Quote

mycitroen04 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Hi, I too have just come across the exact same problem with my heater fan. Unfortuanately I don't have a solution as yet. I have managed to remove the control switches (for air flow, heater and blower control knobs) with the attatched pcb board unit on the rear. I have had the whole unit tested and there doesn't seem to be any problems with it. I - like you, turned my blower onto the auto position and left it there for the remainder of my journey. It wasn't until I drove the car the following day that I noticed that I could no longer control the blower setting or even switch it off! The blower itself seems to be permanently on full power, it's very noisy and annoying. However, I am able to turn the blower switch upto the MAX position, resulting in the increase in power from the blower. It's the only position on the dial that the blower results in any change in power.I have no warranty with my car, so if you do find a solution, please do tell!Many thanks. Quote

I believe they would have replaced the entire unit - no-one does individual electronic components nowadays... Quote

I believe they would have replaced the entire unit - no-one does individual electronic components nowadays... well lads, here's your problem on the back of your heater blower there is a alloy finned block with resistors on it, this is fried :blink:, you need to remove your glove box first.... this is held in with screws at the top and screws INSIDE the glovebox under the grey cloth, have a feel you will find the squares under little flaps, right glove box is out you will see the heater system to the left take off the electrical points be-careful and un bolt it and re-move the heater blower. now in reverse order re-fit you replacement blower. most scrap yards will sell the whole heater system with the resister at the back for around £20-£40 depending on what ever scrap yard you go to. **please note if you say can i buy just the alloy part with the resistors on it ** ** their reply will be NO ** :( it is a good idea to have your old one out before visiting the scrap yard this way you can plug the new one in from the yard and try it out fully that it works a brand new heater blower is £280 or you can get the alloy bit for £90 take your pick :o a dealer part only. oh and while your changing the blower change the cabin filter which is at the side of it , it's a long rectangle black plastic piece slide it and re-move it, the filter is inside should drop out and IT WILL BE BLOCKED UP !! this has caused the re-sistors to fail it got too hot. ...ian Quote

Guest ian collis Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 No idea - I've only had it for 6 weeks. brian push your passenger seat right back then look under footwell you will see a long rectangle black plastic piece, it slides off be carefull it's tight ! when its off the filter will drop out on to the floor, if its clogged up get a new one there £10 this filter gets clogged up when you re-cycle the air. ian Quote
