Guest Jamie MacDougall Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi guys... I have recently been having problem when trying to select reverse gear... Same thing happens whether I have just started it, been running it for ages etc I can put the gear lever into reverse position but it doesn't actually put the gearbox into reverse. The way around this is by first selecting another gear (1st and 2nd work well) then putting it back into reverse. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if something is up with my gearbox... Cheers for any help you can give me :D Jamie Quote
Spiz Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I had the same problem, reverse wouldn't engage properly. The fix was to replace the gearbox oil and at the same time add a tube of Nulon G70to the oil. (A teflon additive.) Took a couple of weeks to take effect, but the reverse problem, and the 1st-2nd shift stiffness when cold have disappeared. Make sure you use the correct gearbox oil, which is : Esso BV 75W80(It has a Peugeot and Citroen spec.) Comes in 2 litre containers.Gearbox takes 1.9l. Cheers Quote
ellerelle Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 great, I'm not going mad after all! anybody know if the guarantee covers this, and if not, any idea roughly how much it is gonna set me back? (got no space and not technically minded enough to do it myself. or I suppose I could just wait another 8000 miles and see if they can sort it out for me at the 20000 mile service ta Quote

A few guys I work with have C3's as well (newer 06 model and the 02 model) and they have had the exact same problem! I must say though that it's not been as bad in the last two weeks or so and I've only had problem finding reverse once... I'll try changing the gearbox oil at the weekend and adding the additive... I wouldn't imagine it would cost you too much though, gearbox oil isn't gold plated and it's not too much of a hassle to change it if you know what your doing. I know my local garage does a gearbox change for £25 including the oil as I had it done on our Discovery 3 a few weeks ago, so it should be around that price... Jamie Quote
