ColinC1 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Don't know if you lot get this, but if you look at the plastic covered hinges, theres is a small hole in the side wall of the plastic cover where rain water gets in, and eventually the hinge squeaks. I have to use WD40 and spray in the hole until it stops squeaking, about once every four months. Any idea why this hole is needed, other than a usefull means of spraying WD40 in ? Quote
downsman Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I think you're probably right, the hole is there to allow oil penetration  I think you'll have more luck if you use an oil. As I understand it WD40 is designed to displace water, rather than lubricate. As far as which oil to use, I don't know. It might be worth asking you mechanic what they use at the dealer next time it's serviced  Quote
ColinC1 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 OK, will use lubricating oil, thanks  Its a pity these hinges are not inside the tailgait like most other cars, rather than be exposed to the elements, like they are. Quote
downsman Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I've just been looking through old threads on the 107 owners forum, and I noticed this in common faults: FAULT: Squeaks from rear boot hindgesHOW TO FIND: As above...OCCURANCES: ONE or TWODIAGNOSIS FROM PUG: Circlip escapes leaving hinge not poperly locatedFIX: Replace hinge assembly (circlip isd not listed as a separate part!)WORK DONE BY: N/AANY ISSUES: This is a super simple fix if you are near a dealer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It may be that your hinges need replacing, so it might be worth getting your dealer to check them. Hope this is of interest :P Quote
