I have a Xsara 1.9 HDi estate and the remote control keys have stopped locking the car. One stopped a while ago and I assumed it was the battery so I have been using the other one which has now stopped working too. Replacing the battery does nothing so I am locking it manually by the door which is working fine. Both keys became a little tempremental before stopping completely and sometimes I found myself pushing the buttons very hard a number of times to get them to work, but now nothing!

The car has done 135K miles so the pcb's in the keys may have had it I suppose?

Any ideas for fixes or cheap repairs would be really welcome.

sometimes under the button in the remote control gets dirty but you have to open it up and give it a clean on the circit board..

I just got 2000 1.9D Xsara to replace my trusty ZX. The guy I got it off said the 2 button key plip just needs a new battery and it'll work fine. I got one but no luck. I blew any dust out and all the rest but then I heard that on replacement of battery they need reprogrammed and have tried the instructions on www.programyourkeys.com but I dont know what the LED they are talking about is. My plip is wedged shaped and the key folds into it. It has a rubber edge with two buttons within. A 10mm long one and a 5mm long one. There is no LED on the plip and no LED within the car which relates to the PLIP. Anyone any ideas? And let me know if you have any luck with that site!!

I have found a solution to the romote key locking problem on my Xsara and thought anyone with the same problem would be interested.

Open the driver's door and leave it open

Put key in ignition and turn ignition on

Press and hold lock button for 5 seconds

Turn off ignition and remove key

Wait 5 seconds and test key

It's worth checking the battery in the key fob is okay first but this worked a treat for me and saved the £45 my local Citroen dealer wanted to charge me!

Good luck,

Dan.

Hi Danpitt

Thanks a lot for your advice, it was very helpful! It saved me bags of money as my local garage has advised me today that they would have to damage my back left door to open it and fix my central locking.

Your trick worked, many thanks! Do you think it is an intermittent problem?
