it sounds as if your cabin filter is totally blocked up, push your passenger seat right back then look under the footwell you will see a rectangle black piece of plastic slide this out, becareful it breaks easy and the filter will fall out, you will be amazed how much crap it has caught ! re-place it they are about £10 from most good car parts shops, don't go to halfords they are £20 :( . this should also cure any bad smells in your car  .

it sounds as if your cabin filter is totally blocked up, push your passenger seat right back then look under the footwell you will see a rectangle black piece of plastic slide this out, but be careful it breaks easy and the filter will fall out, you will be amazed how much crap it has caught! replace it they are about £10 from most good car parts shops, don't go to halfords they are £20

I also get very little air actually coming out of any of the vents.

Even when I turn the blower up to full it's really poor, but when the blower is set to 1/2 then I can barely feel it.

The fan is definitely working (I can tell because of the noise), it's just that hardly any air actually comes out of the vents.

I'm wondering if a pipe has come loose somewhere between the blower and the vents?

How can I check/fix this without ripping the entire dash out?

I have already checked the following:

  • The fan/blower definitely works properly - when I turn it up I can hear it blowing really hard, and I do get some air coming out of the vents when the fan it turned up full, just nowhere near what it should be.
  • The aircon works - it does actually make the air cold.
  • The aircon was regassed last year, and the pollen filter was replaced at the same time.
  • I have checked the filter as described above, and it is totally spotless - no dust or anything to block the airflow.
  • The problem is the same if the aircon is turned on/off
  • The problem is the same if the recirculation swith is turned on/off

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem and found that it was the Air Distribution control if its moved all the way to the right .ie screen then the airflow is restricted if you then move it to the left about 5 mm it works perfect full air flow.. Hope this helps
