My C2 Doesn't Want To Play

Hi everyone, I have just got my hands on a 2003 VTR with a few issues and was hoping someone could help me out?

I managed to drive the car home when I first bought it but have already had a few issues with the central locking but swapping the keyfob battery seems to have solved that out. The newest problem it has kicked up is that it will not tick over for love nor money! The car has previously been modified by some monkey who obviously was happy to settle for crappy half a**ed jobs as the radio turns on when I open the door, etc! However, despite the battery being drained by something on a permanent basis, the car won't give me as much as a cough when trying to jump start it. Does anyone know why this would be the case? If anyone needs any more info I'm happy to help out where I can

Sorry, I forgot to add that the battery dash light flashes when there is any kind of power to the dash itself - either from opening the door, unlocking it or turning the key in the ignition. Also Eco-mod appears in the centre console display at the same time but the cd player will turn its display on and try to eject a cd, just like when the power is completely removed from it and plugged back in (anyone who has installed a new head unit will know what I mean).

this leads me to believe that something on the car is generating a total power loss at some point (possibly the current head unit being installed incorrectly) but I'm not sure as yet.
