Paul99 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi, need a bit of help with fitting a dension fm modulator to a C3 hdi desire 55 plate. When fitting the modulator to the C3 factory fitted head unit, I need to connect an earth and a live with a scotchlock, from the back of the headunit to the fm modulator. I haven't removed the stereo yet, but I'm aware, (from previous experience of a citreon saxo!) that it's not always obvious which colour wire citreon use for the earth or the live. Has anyone fitted one of these modulators? Or does anyone happen to know what colour wires citreon use for the earth and live? Having read other threads on this forum about the problems people have had with the multiplex wiring and replacing the headunit, I really don't want to disconnect the stereo if I can avoid it. I love being able to use my central locking, lights, dash display etc... really don't want to risk upsetting them. Quote
Paul99 Posted March 15, 2008 Author Posted March 15, 2008 Information for anyone looking to put an ipod connection into a C2/C3 (c. 05/55 plate) and probably other citroens, with a OEM Clarion RD3 headunit, model number P2471A I decided not to fit the FM modulator because I'm unsure what the effect on the CAN BUS wiring and the EPU would be, if I were to splice into the live, ground or ACC wires. Having made some enquiries with my local radio fitters, I was warned that the fm modulator could upset the EPU and then the car electrics could shutdown. Be wary of the universal fit tag!! Instead I have fitted the Connects 2 Citroen ipod connector for Clarion RD3 radios (CTACTIPOD003 -I think is the product code). I have a 30GB 3rd Gen ipod. Good points:Ease of fitting- Take out the stereo and plug the connects 2 unit into the cd changer port - simple.Connects 2 charges the ipodUse the steering controls and stereo controls to advance and retard the tracks on the ipod.Connects 2 pauses the ipod when stereo/ engine turned off and/or cd/radio chosen. Resumes currently playing track when cd changer chosen.CD quality sound Really pedantic bad points:Can't chose the playlists using the stereo numbered keys (as advertised by connects 2)Track number of track playing on the ipod does not always correspond with what is displayed on the headunit. No 3.5mm jack/usb for fitting other MP3 players None of these points are of issue for me and the first two may well be because of my type of ipod and/or my headunit type. Overall the Connects2 does everything I want and I'm really pleased that the ipod responds to the steering controls. It really is a good system with great sound quality. I have done a lot of research into ipod solutions for the above stereo/ C3 and this appears to be the only one available that will work. I looked into Dension and they did a system, which I ordered online, but it never materialised due to production issues with the software. I'm not convinced that the issues will be sorted anytime soon either, if at all. The best price for the Connnects 2 I could find (short of buying off ebay) was £69.99 plus postage (about a £5) from dealsonice.net. They were really good and got the connects2 to me in 2 days. I'm unsure of how the Connects 2 works with any other ipod. My brother has an iphone and the same car stereo as me, so will update this forum in 2 weeks or so, as to whether the connects 2 works with the iphone. Quote
