2000W HDi hatch pre face lift owned from new

182k

replaced 'soft start' pulley on end of crank June 2007 due to the nipples wearing down allowing pulley to spin through the 'soft start' slots

The 'new' pulley has now parted company with itself ---- the welds on the revised (£150 GULP) pulley I fitted have sheared as has the woodruff key on the crank which allows it to spin eccentrically. Q: did a failure of the welds cause the woodruff key to fail or did a woodruff key failure cause the welds to come under additional strain & fail.

I bought the new pulley from supplying dealer of the car Dixons in Doncaster who have since gone bust - have the receipt but before I seek support from CUK thought I'd ask for some comment --- my guess is she is repairable by removing the cam belt, then the lower sprocket to get at the woodruff key (I take it, it is a CUK spare???? or a general engineering company if I could give them a spec/size) replacing this, the cam belt (last was 40k ago so now is a good time), then another auxiallary drive pulley (this is the crux 'cos £150 is a heck of a lot of dosh).

Thoughts welcome...
