Please help,my Xantia HDI has been in two diffrent garages several times with the same problem and they cannot seem to fix it. The car drives fine in town without any problems but as you go on the motorway and go over 3000 RPM, the drive carries on for another 5-10 miles, after this the RPM is limited back to 3000 despite using full throttle. When the engine is switched off and restarted instantly the drive seems to go back to normal for another 5-10 miles. When this occues I have switched the ignition off while letting the car run in gear but the problem doesnt seem to dissapear. The engine management lights also stay on at all times.

Could it be a fuel starvation problem? Perhaps the delivery pump in the tank not stumping up enough fuel delivery for the HDi pump at prolonged increased revs.

If the management light is on its obviously recording some fault - have you had the fault codes read yet?
