Hello,

I am really hoping somebody can help me. Some nice person has completely damaged my passenger side (electric) wing mirror. A brand new one appears top cost an awful lot (which I cannot afford), so I ahve decided to try and get a second hand one.

However, this is really difficult.

Does anybody know if there is another model of Citroen (wing mirror) that will the Xantia (somebody mentioned the C2)?

Perhaps an earlier model of the Xantia as an alternative?

Also, does it necessarily have to be electric. Would a manual one also fit?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. A manual one will fit. You will need the cable and door trim fitting as well as it's the same as the drivers side (Manual on the LX I have) My MK1 LX had both mirors manual. (Well, remote adjust via cables). You should be able to pop off the coloured panel and spray it the right colour. Citroen will be able to supply a spray touch up can the right colour. (or perhaps a good motor factor).

If you want to source a 2nd hand part try https://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ or http://www.pugcit.co.uk/ Alternatively there are LOADS on Ebay! Electic ones are only a pound or so more than manuals!

Cheers. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that's very helpful. But will I need to get them off a 51 plate (like mine), or will pre-98 be ok for example?

Regards.

I've had an L reg (92), a P reg (96), and presently an S reg (98) (mk2). The only differences I could see in the mirrors are that the 92 had all black ones (Manual) and the 96 had Body colour panels (manual) . The passenger side electric mirror became standard on Mk2s also with body colour panels. The design of the doors did not change between Mk1 and Mk2 apart from the internal trims, mostly around the storage bin area where the Mk2 gained an opening bin and Mk1s had a full length door pocket. Better in my opinion. This much being said the mountings should be the same and any mirror from any car should be able to be screwed into place. Carefully prise off the internal cover panel and the screws will be exposed. Unscrew them and undo the wiring connector to remove the mirror. As I said in my previous post Electric ones are very little more than manual ones on Ebay so the choice is yours. Remember that if you go down the manual route you will need the relevant control lever and trim panel for the door.

Cheers. Hope this helps.

On the subject, sort of, can you swap a manual mirror for an electric one? Would the loom be already in place? Would you just need a switch? My T reg 90hdi lx has manual drivers mirror which I'd change for an electric job if It didn't mean too much wiring.

I dare say you could do it even if the loom isn't there. You would need to replace the single mirror control on the dash with a switchable left/right one as fitted to my new (To me) Xsara Picasso. Alternatively get another control from a dead Xantia and put it in the spare hole next to the Passengers one (Move the passegers one over and piggyback feeds off it) and replicate the wiring to the drivers door. There would be 3 wires to feed down to the door pillar and up to the mirror. A bit of 3 core domestic 5amp cable, as for a table lamp, should do quite well. It would be good if you managed to get the plugs and wiring from a scrapper.

I had my drivers door off a while ago to weld up the top hinge which had failed and I don't remember seeing any spare wires for the mirror or anything. The cars that have electric mirrors as standard have the control in the door (I THINK!) and also heaters in them that come on with the heated rear screen so more wires needed if you want the heaters too!

Nice project and if you want to do it, go for it!

Cheers. Hope this helps. :D
