candpdoyle Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Hey guy's I have just latley noticed a bit of a hesitation/ lack of acceleration when using all the revs?? only noticble if you try to rev past about 3.5/4k might be normal?? Car drives well and it is only really affecting the hill climbing and motorway overtaking kind of speeds.. pulls really well, just looses that urgency!! what kind of speed should i get in third if i floor it seem to hit a wall at 60mph?? Hope this makes sence :( CheersChris Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi Chris. If my memory serves me correctly your car is a 1.9td?????? If I'm right, then it's true to say that diesels really don't like revs that much anyway, the torque curve on a turbo XUD will peak a little after 2500 rpm (the turbo doesn't do much below 2000) and carry on quite flat til about 3500 when it starts to tail off again. There is little point chasing the revs much past 4000 as all usefull puff has departed by then. In this respect they are the entire opposite of petrol engines, most of which seem to be gutless below 3500! Also seem to remember that you use some home brewed fuel or cooking oil. May well be that you've overdone the mix and it's simply not able to burn as quickly. Things can be improved by ensuring that air and fuel filters are in good nick, it may well be that your engine simply can't get enough air or fuel to go any faster. Some people fit aftermarket filters to help improve air and fuel flow and so spread the usefull torque band a bit higher up the rev scale. If it's your first diesel you may not yet have mastered the diesel art, that of earlier up changes and riding the torque rather than chasing outright power through RPM. Also revving it's bo***cks off will do very little for your economy and put a BIG grin on Alastair Darlings face every time you visit the pumps! Cheers. Hope this helps. :( Quote
candpdoyle Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 lol thanks colin I thought it was probably something like that... it pulls really well until 3500 so i assume that is where it all stops then... only really noticed the other day on the motorway... was cruising at 70(3000rpms) and decided to floor it and see what happened :P surged off until about 85 ish and from there on was a slow and steady increase in speed until i decided that was enough (just under 100mph) definatly not for your boy racers then :D it is my first modern diesel ( modern for me that is!!!) the landy would redline at 4000 rpms which was usually just after your ears start bleeding :P CheersChris Quote
