Stekelly Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hi folks. Just looking at an X reg Xantia. Car seems great apart from a central locking issue. The car unlocks using the button on the remote but it wont lock with the button. It works fine if you ise the key in the lock. Anyone come across this before? Dont suppose it''s an easy fix?Seller seems to think its a symptom of a low keyfob battery but it seems to simple an answer. thanks for any help. Ste Quote
Guest rowls Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Cheapest thing would be to try a new battery first. Maybe the locking button has broke off inside the remote, early xantias suffered with this. Could sometimes solder them back on. New remotes are about £40 - £50, then you need to add the programing costs on top. Quote
Stekelly Posted March 30, 2008 Author Posted March 30, 2008 Just following up on this. Bought the car today, turns out the lock button on both keys is broken off . I opened the keys and the button dropped out on one and is missing altogether on the other. I'm looking at a couple of keys on Ebay to use the pcb boards and put into my keyfobs and reprogram, Does anyone know how the keyfob comes apart? I have the back cover off but cant get the board to come out. I tried givng it a little tug but it wont ome out, dotn want to force and break it. Even if I can just get the key blade out I can swap it into the new key, does the keyfob just pull apart? or does the pin that goes through iit push out or somesuch? Unrelated issue but I drove the car from Birmingham to Holyhead and after about 20 mins of motorway driveing, probably touched the brakes once if at all, the ABS light came on and stayed on till I stopped for food. Then after another 20 mins of motorway drivign it came on again. When I got back to Dublin and was doign city drivign for about an hour there was no sign of the light. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Penguin Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Sorry to hijack this thread but I bought a Xantia on Friday and one of the key blippers works and the other one doesn't. Both have the little red led come on when depressing the button so I assume that the switch isn't broken and the battery has some life? Any thoughts? Cheers Penguin Quote
red_dwarfers Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Penguin: It will probably be that the key plip needs reprogramming, I know there is a special sequence to doing this. It's probably on the forums somewhere. Quote

red_dwarfers Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Cheers RD. Doesn't it have to be done by a citroen dealer then? Im right in saying that you have a '95 Xantia?I had a quick look around on the net and came up with this: 1. Ensure all doors are unlocked using the key.2. Press and hold plip key button until LED stops flashing.3. After releasing button, LED will light constantly.4. Press the Plip Button once, and LED will extinguish.5. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch, and press the plip button one time.6. Now turn the ignition ON, and wait 10 seconds then turn ignition OFF.7. After 5 seconds, Plip should now operate.CENTRAL DOOR LOCK with DEADLOCKING (2 BUTTON PLIP KEY)Procedure1. Ensure all doors are unlocked using the key.2. Press and HOLD the large plip key button while the LED flashes continuously for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds press the small deadlock button once while still holding the large button.3. The LED will stop flashing.4. Release the large button and the LED will light constantly.5. Press the large button one time, and the LED will go out.6. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch, and press the large plip button one time.7. Now turn the ignition ON, and wait 10 seconds then turn ignition OFF.8. After 5 seconds, Plip should now operate. Quote
