Has anyone done this?

I'm not talking about swapping the boot door... just affixing an aftermarket LED brake light to the inside top of the back window.

The Mk2's have one built into the top of the bootlip - so there must be wiring in the bootlid ready for this? The Haynes manual isn't too helpful here, and I can't find any likely wires in the bootlid when I took off the trim panel this morning.

Is the only option to run a cable from the brakelight wiring in the rear wing up to the hinge and into the door? Looks like it's going to be more trouble than it's worth.

Has anyone done this or have any comments? I have a Mk1 BTW...

Thanks

Hi David.

As you suspect there is no wiring already in the hatch for the high level brake light on the MK1s. You are correct in thinking you will have to run a wire up from the brake light. One feed wire should do as you should be able to pick up an earth in the hatch, either from the rear window heater or the wiper. On the lad's ZX the wires to the hatch run up under the rubber seal strip so if you go that way you shouldn't have to disturb any interior trim.

Cheers Hope this helps :D

OK! Fine. That's true, but think on, why would they provide the wires without the lamp?Somewhat wastefull don't you think? If they made a modification like that it was across the board, not model dependant.

May be wrong! Won't be the first time & won't be the last! :D
