Recently noticed that one of my rear hub has one bad thread which is totally worn, they suggest me to find a replacement. Been to salvage, only have one 51-reg xsara in stock, and of which has a drum brake, but mine is a 99 V-reg HDi with disc brake. Will they be compatible at all?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ricky.

Sorry this one's a bit old now but have you thought about having it "Helicoiled"? This is where the worn/stripped thread is tapped out to a larger size and a stainless steel insert which resembles a coil spring is screwed in the restore the thread to the original size. This method is used quite a lot on alloy cylinder heads when the plug threads get knackered up. Don't see why it shouldn't work on your hub. You'll be able to buy a kit the right size from an engineering supplier for between £25 or £30 with enough "coils" to repair about 10 threads. Alternatively you c ould ask a local garage if they could do it for you. It should only take abot 10 mins to do.

Cheers Hope this helps.
