I have a 2002 HDI sx xsara and since yesterday when I turn right lock hard on I get a knock/clunk this sometimes happens when returning to the left lock.

It doesn't happen all the time but the car now steers slightly to the right.

Can anyone advise what it is and is it safe to drive?

Cheers

could be a few things "steering rack ,ball joints, bushes , top shock bearings which fit on to steering along the line they clunk mine is doing this on a 1.4 west coast on the top of the shockers under bonnet its the black mounts mostly its the joints "wish bones " jack it up and axle stand it then wobble the wheel up and down and left to right "not by steering it .you should hear it .

hope it helps

the bearing on top of the strut is worn. costs around 11 quid for the bearing. not serious. just turn the radio up
