Hogweed Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Hi all, thanks for providing the forum. I've just acquired a diesel ZX, and it was going fine until the other day it wouldn’t start. If I take a wire from the battery to the solenoid, it starts, so I assume a problem somewhere between the ignition switch and the solenoid. Are there any common failure points here? Of course, knowing my luck, it’ll be the sodding switch itself... CheersRoger Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Hello Roger. First, a question. Does your ZX have the keypad immobliser fitted, and, if so, is it still in use? Since you don't mention it I will assume not. The immobilser (If in use) will cut fuel to the pump but still allow the engine to crank, but seeing as you can get life in the beast by feeding 12v to the solenoid it would indeed appear to be the switch. What you could do is put a hidden switch some where and carry on as you are, or source a 2nd hand ignition switch from a breakers. If you can find an old car with the door locks as well you can get the whole lot so you don't need to carry two keys. The locks are quite easy to change. Cheers. Hope this helps. :( Quote
