Guest LOVEMYLINGO Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 hi to you all is there anyone out there who can recommend the safest sturdiest type of cycle carrier for about 3/4 bikes, I dont want to transport via the roof, i wanted to know how good are the tow ball type? or are the tailgates strong enough to carry them, do the damage the tailgate? thanks Quote
oofmeister Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I've got a mate who uses a Thule towbar-mounted rack behind a Zafira. It takes 3 bikes and he's pretty pleased with it. He's a serious bike-addict, and the total value of bikes on the back is often greater than that of the car, so I trust his opinion. I'm planning on getting one myself, but have to get the 'Lingo to attatch it to first! Quote

Dingoinda Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I have used a cycle rack on the back of my Berlingo to carry two bikes. I had it from two previous estate cars with no problems. It was a halfords item about £60.00 at the time (probably 3 years ago). The bikes go high enough to clear lights and numberplate and I have also permanently installed an additional high vis brake light just above the wiper motor cover. The rack can carry 3 bikes max. The last time the bikes were transported I put them straight in the back without dismantling !!! Not many estate cars can do that!!! Quote
