Guest Saxodaddy Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Has anyone added power steering to a non power steered car. I am going to give it a go. I believe I will need a steering column, pump, rack, pipes loom & relay. I will prob buy parts from ebay unless one of you guys have a spares or repairs donor. Can anyone comment on this task. I know it sounds a bit crazy but my son loves his 1.0L W reg Celebration. its got 155 R13 on at the mo, however my son has plans on making it look a bit more butch ie VTR alloys + 185 tyres. It will become tooooo heavy on the steering with the new alloys. I'm up for the challenge but would apreciate any positive comments. CheersMarc Quote
iannez Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 tbh its not a bad job. all you will need is the electric pump, pipes and rack. with the pump not being belt driven makes it much easier. Quote

iannez Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 no more than £100 for the parts (second hand) and a couple of hours labour. i changed a rack on a vtr last week and it took just under 30 min so a decent mechanic should be able to do the whole job in under 2 hours. not sure if the wiring will be there for the pump so if its not he will have to fit a relay from an ignition live as the feeds to the pump are to heavy to wire direct so this might bump the labour up another half hour.
