My heated rear window has stopped working, but I can't find the cause or fix the problem.

When I press the button, the light on the dashboard comes on as normal, but the window stays misted up.

I have checked every fuse and none of them have blown - I've even taken them all out and cleaned the contacts.

I've checked the element on the rear window and there are no visible breaks in the little lines of the element.

Any ideas?

Hi Pitmonster!

The same thing happened to my lad's ZX. The feed wire had broken where it goes through the rubber tube into the hatch. The conductor was broken, the insulation was whole but you could feel the break. 10 years of opening and closing had obviously been too much for it. I'm not sure about the xsara but I found a connection block behind the nearside boot liner on the ZX and renewed the wire from there up. After I had done that, one of the guys who used to work at our local dealers told me they just crop out the broken bit and solder in a new piece and cover the joins with shrink sleeve. Sounds less trouble. My bets are on a break near the hatch hinge. Check it out!

Cheers. Hope this helps.

Sounds good.

When I open the rubber tube I expect there'll be a number of different wires (central locking, central brake light etc).

Does anybody know which colour wire is the one for the heated rear window?
