Smarty Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Hi to everyone, new member here although i have owned a slew of Citroens over the years. My Xantia died after an infection of bio-diesel (pump tatered) got a Suzuki Baleno knacker at the moment (like riding a horse drawn cart but without the comfort) I am currently considering a C5 2.0L petrol and doing the old gas conversion thingy on it and getting me fuel for 49p a litre :P Now can any of you good people advise on the old C5? i am thinking of a second hand jobbie on an 02 plate mileage below 60,000 for little cash  Also does anyone know any good independant specialists in or around the Black Country mucka  Erm i think that about covers it, any help and or suggestions will be gratefully recieved. Cheers Smarty Quote

Better still don't mess around with the fuel system at all and buy a 2.0 HDi, best model is the 110 bhp version from 2001-2004. These do without the particle filter/diesel additive and give mid-high 40's mpg with reasonable performance. Quote

Cheers Don't worry too much about the rear brake pad/caliper issue. Once you've managed to see what's what it is pretty straight forward and you'll soon be adept at keeping them in good condition even as a precautionary measure... It could be worse, it could be vauxhall rear drums or discs! I lost count the amount of times I had to strip them down and replace the slides/ seals! As 72dudes has suggested, the hdi 110 2.0 ltr d is a relatively uncomplicated diesel in comparison to the 2.2ltr and can take a lot of abuse. I would also avoid the HPI (I still cant understand why they made it). If you are not concerned with the extra torque that a 2.0ltr petrol gives, another alternative is the 1.8 16valve. There isn't really that much difference in performance apart from having to drop down a gear for overtaking more often. As far as ownership of C5's, well I'm fairly new to them but all I can say we now have 4 C5's in the family of various specs and performance now so they must be ok and we all love them. We can't all be mad! lol. Quote
