Hi all, the lhm pipe which supplys the front drivers side sphere on my m reg 1.9td has sprung a leak at a mounting bracket which i was told is a common problem. ive got a new replacement pipe but i cant work out where the old one finishes. it goes behind the engine and then drops down behind a set of other lhm pipe unions and i lose it there. can anybody explain or give me a diagram or something to help me locate where it goes to cos im losing lots of lhm and oiling my road up. i was told it would cost around £150-£200 to get it done by the local citroen dealer which i dont really want to spend if i can help it. please please can anyone help!!!

many thanks

Paul

I'd the same problem on my first Xantia (94 reg)

unlike yourself I was quoted silly money to replace out the whole line by a variety of independents with the cost being justified by the amount of time taken to trace remove & replace the line due to it's rather complicated and awkward path.. which did actually make sense after I'd checked the schematics..

for obvious reasons I didn't even bother going to a Citroen Dealer to get it priced

Anyway. what I ended up having done was getting the line cut at the leak point and then a mechanical clamp self taping joint fitted over the two naked ends.

it worked perfectly.

The only other thing done was to clean and pad, with bog standard clear silicone. the guide mount which this and other pipes were routed through. This being to prevent any further wear on the other pipes there which looked that they might have the same problem in the future.

Total cost of the job including the €4 clamp was €50 (in 2002) and once the clamp had been located it took about 10 minutes to do.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for but hopefully this helps.

alternately.. grab the haynes manual for the Xantia, it may not exactly tell you where the pipe ends.. but it's well worth the paltry few quid that it costs.

thanks for the reply, i have actually replaced the pipe with a new one. i manged to get the info i needed from someone at the citroen dealer. the pipe connects directly underneath the lhm tank, which you need to remove to gain access, to what i believe is the height corrector as the other sphere connects to this aswell. apparently its near impossible to remove the old pipe and route the new one on the same path so my new pipe travels behind the engine to the sphere. it took me around 4 hours to do. im real pleased as i love my xantia and didnt really want to get rid of it, especially as ive only recently had a new clutch and timing belt!!!
