Cormac Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 While comming home from work the other morning my power steering started acting up, when turning the wheel from lock to lock it goes light---heavy---light---heavy and so on, Very strange, Ive checked the belt which is fine and the reservoir is full of fluid.. Theres a little seapage from the rack but not alot, I jacked car up and steering is still the same, Whats my next move? Do the racks give bother? could the steering colum be at fault as when ive jacked up car the steering is still the same#?? Help Cheers Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Hi there. It's very likely to be the intermediate shaft (With universal joint) which fits between the steering column and the rack. The first thing is to spray the UJ with WD40 or similar while working the steering from side to side. This should lubricate the UJ and free it up. The only longterm cure is to replace the shaft and UJ. It's not that expensive thankfully. If you end up having to replace the rack, they can be sourced from breakers fot £30 or so or about £180 reconditioned. Cheers, Hope this helps. Quote
