twotrucks Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi all, I hope this will be of interest to C3 owners out there. I own a C3 1.4 HDI SX, first registered in March 03.I took the car to an independent mechanic for a service at the end of January and now i'm regretting I did so! When I got the car back from him it did not feel as good to drive as it did before it went into him, every time I hit a bump on the road it was just a thumping sound from the front end,knocking/rattling noise and just general discomfort.. I carried on driving the car with caution until the MOT was due. I was dissapointed to learn that BOTH front springs were broken, but it did explain why I felt uncomfortable with the car after getting it back from the so-called service. Why were the springs not checked at the service, surely that would be one of the main checks on a car... After a few phone calls to different Citroen approved dealers I was getting the same story that the springs were hard to get hold off and that the price including fitting ranges between £250 and £275. Out of all the approved dealers ony one mentioned the fault with the springs and although I had the recall work done he said to leave it with him and he would see what he could do.. He rang the next day and said he would have the springs within two days and that he would put it through the warranty for me, even though the car is over five years old. While they were doing the work they rang me and said one off the drop links needed renewed, so I said ok and they only charged for the part, no labour.A day or two after the new springs were fitted, I started to notice a creaking noise from the drivers side at the front.. When I returned the car for inspection and explained this only happened after the springs got fitted. They had a look and told me the wishbone was kinked/bent and that it probably happened when the spring broke, the cost of the repair ended up costing me £147. Thankfully the car seems back to normal again and a pleasure to drive!!!Sorry if my story was to long winded but I thought some peple might like to know that there are still genuine service and mechanic guys out there!Happy motoring, twotrucks Quote
CE08LDB Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 The 3 years I owned my 05 C3 Exclusive never had any faults with it and I had to keep it fo an extra week before I had my new C2 due to paper work and the Drivers side front spring decided to snap. Fairplay even though the Warranty was up on the 21st April and this happend on the 22nd it was done by Citroen for free as it was a fault Citroen knew about. I still think highly of the car though and I still miss it. Quote
