its a whizzing sound coming from the aux belt

i know this as i have removed and sound dissapears

i did a screw driver test and its louder on alternator than it is on the tensioners

but can a alternator make whizzing noise if buggered?

i dont wanna buy new alt if it turns out to be a tensioner?

9 times out of 10 its the alternator. is there a burning smell coming from it.

no just the whining noise but does sound loud through the screwdriver test

but i dont know how loud an altinator should sound internal?

It's probably the alternator bearings that are making the noise. As long as there's no burning smell coming from it, and it's still charging OK when it's running you may be able to get away with a new set of bearings. Try an auto electrician for a quote.

Cheers. Hope this helps.

I've had a similar problem. Everyone thought it to be the servo pump, but turned out t be the (sorry for my bad vocabulary, since I'm not an English speaking person on daily basis) the little wheel-thingy that tensions the belt.

Try to take it out and se if it glides as it should.

If you removed the aux belt you should have already chesked both the tesioner and the idler as they are both removeable .. But it does really sound like altinator bearings.. Had mine recond a few months back £60
