Cupcake Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Hi, I am new to the forum, in fact new to C3's. I am thinking of purchasing a C3 but it has very high mileage. It is an 03 plate 1.4HDi which has covered 135k. The high mileage is putting me off as I may have to fork out for major parts soon. I know modern diesel engines are better nowadays, but I do not know what the expected life span of a 1.4 diesel engine is. Can anyone give any advice please? Quote
CE08LDB Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Is it a Blue Exclusive you thinking of getting? Seen one on the net with about the same mileage you said. Quote

CE08LDB Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 How much is the seller asking then? I got a picture of that car on CD as I collect Citroen pics and I had it from a car dealer non Citroen Dealer in wales on the internet in June 07 and the Garage had it up for £3,995 If your interested in the car contact my local dealer and they supplied that car new its in my signuture below tomorrow ask for a Jeff Picton the Service Manager ask him to look up what servicing have they got on record on the car. He's a great bloke he should be able to help. It won't hurt as if you wanna buy the car you gonna want to know its history. Obviously double check with the seller first its the same car we are talking about bet in case there are 2 03 Blue Exclusives out there with 135,000 miles on the clock. Quote
raveydavey Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 What sort of price are they looking at for it? If it's near the £3,995 mentioned elsewhere on the thread then that seems a bit steep to be honest, given the mileage. I've got a 2003/03 1.4HDi 8v which I've owned from new and have done 72k without the engine missing a beat - although obviously that is a lot less than the car you are looking at. Correctly maintained PSA diesel engines generally have a great reputation for longevity, but as another poster has said, I've not seen a C3 with that sort of mileage on it. My own personal opinion would depend on the price that is being asked, the vehicle history and what you're going to be using it for. If you're going to be racking up big mileages in it, then is this car a good idea, given how cheap you can pick up C3's with lesser mileage? Quote

The car is coming from Wales and I called the dealer where it has had most of its servicing carried out and it has full history up to a year ago. The present owner then bought it and got it serviced locally. It has not had major parts replaced. However the cambelt was changed at 105k. I have managed to get the price down to 2,700. The idea of saving me half of what I pay now in petrol is what is appealing, plus the tax is so low compared to around 175 which I pay at present. I don't do high mileage, its mostly motorway which I use cruise at 70, so the car will not be thrashed - not by me anyway! Quote

I think I must have spoken to this guy already, last week. He told me that the car had had the cambelt changed at 105k. I can get the car for 2,700 and I would never look at paying anything near 3995 with that mileage. Can you advise how much a full service costs on average for the diesel and how often it needs it? Would I still get 65+ mpg with that sort of mileage do you think? Quote
stimulator Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Full service at a dealers is £250 approx. Required every 12,500 miles or every year (which ever comes first) if a 1.4 8v 70BHP or 1.4 16V 92BHP. The later model 1.6 92BHP is 12,500 or every two years which ever comes first. I don't see ewhy you won't get that sort of mpg, my 1.4 does 61.4 on every tank at 35K 3.5 years old. However the actual depends upon your right foot and the top speed, at 56 to 60 you get a lot more than at 70 mph. If your worried is this the best car for you when there are many others out there to choose from (at present). I do believe that they will start to dissappear when the new VED charges kick in and smaller cars are snapped up for the £30 to 35 VED. Quote
CE08LDB Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I would go for it has by what Thomas & Davies have told you its been serviced when it should have and it looks like the 2 owners have looked after it. Citroen and Peugeot HDi Engines 135,000 is nothing these days these HDi engines seem Bullet proof hence why you see alot of High Mileage C5 HDi's as they had been company cars. Quote

Well, after a lot of debating, I have decided to go for it and I will get it checked over and serviced asap. At least I can be assured as a new Citroen owner, I can come on this site for help when I need it!! Thanks to all for help and advice. :) Quote

Don Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I bought an FSH 81,000 miles '02 plate 1.4 hdi 16v C3 4 years ago for £3,600. It was 2yrs 11 mnths old and required an MOT. It was such a good car I bought it as seen, drove it home from Essex, to Scarborough, MOT'd it (no problem then and since) And all I do is put Diesel in and have it serviced by my local non franchised Citroen garage. This is my 6th Citroen since 1996, and I can only say that they have all "had their moments". So, go on and give it a go! They all drive brilliantly and are good cars. Mine has now done 134k, (still FSH) and the issues I have had are a "flat spot" when accelerating from gear to gear, and a front spring broke last week (£165 all found). Other than that, I look forward to zero road tax next year I believe, and £20 per year 'till 2012.Happy driving! Don Quote
