Guest JeffersanhisC5 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Just popped down to my local ATS after reading fix to steering wheel vibration, got tracking sorted and 2 new tyres for £110. Unfortunately they could not balance the alloys due to the centre hub problem. Took it for a test spin and got up to about 85 and hey presto, vibration has gone. Question is is it wise to still get the wheels balanced or am i ok to leave them. Second question is my auto lights are on drugs, they seem to come on in the day when it is bright (by bright i mean when the sun is out) and when they should come in like in a tunnel or something they stay off. I have tried to disable them by following the manual but after the single beep (which shouls signify they are disabled) the damn things remain on. Any help would be of assistance thanks !!!! cheers. CE08LDB Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 On my last C3 I went To Kwik Fit to have new Front Tyres and they couldn't balance my tyres due to their machine being broke and I never had a problem with them not being done. As for the Auto Lights I had to deactivate my brothers on his Mark 2 C3 Exclusive because they were coming in in the day in the Bright Sun Light as well. My brother said rather than just taking it to get the sensor done it was easier putting the on and off himself. Quote
seefive Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Unfortunately they could not balance the alloys due to the centre hub problem.A decent tyre retailer should be able to balance the wheels - they need an attachment that fits on the balancing machine to replacate a wheel hub. The road wheel is then bolted on. The place I take mine (small independent) do it no problem. I have discovered that certain brands of tyre balance better than others - I currently have Goodyears (£48 each) and they balance fine with minimum weights Second question is my auto lights are on drugs, they seem to come on in the day when it is bright (by bright i mean when the sun is out) and when they should come in like in a tunnel or something they stay off. I have tried to disable them by following the manual but after the single beep (which shouls signify they are disabled) the damn things remain on. I had this problem last year, but it went away. I found that driving on side lights stopped it happening. Quote
Ronin Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 There is a section in your owners manual on how to turn off auto lights. As far as wheel balancing goes. Yes I would still get it checked out even if the vibration is gone. New tyres need time to settle in and more often than not the vibration will return. Ring around a few local tyre specialists first and check to see if they have the bolt type hub for your alloys. Trust me it's worth doing m8 or you might find that uneven wear on those brand new tyre's may occur. Quote
myglaren Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I had my tyres balanced at ATS and the tracking done too. They had the adaptor but I had to wait a couple of days as they had run out of stick-on weights. As far as I could tell they did a decent professional job and all has been fine since.I was run off the road by a pickup truck and it knocked the tracking out so I went to the dearest place out of sheer awkwardness (I wasn't paying) My autolights also illuminate in very bright sunlight and I have chalked it down to being a safety feature - easier to see oncoming headlights in bright sunlight. I would use the lights under such conditions anyway - actually, I would normally have the lights on under any conditions, always have had since living in Sweden. Quote
Ronin Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Lol think yourself lucky. When I was serving in Afghanistan I was a passenger in an old russian made truck that when it turned right, the right headlight would work and left, the left one would work???? I asked the Afghan driver why? He said "it saves electrickery, the battery aint so good......besides my wife only has one pair of tights left" Hamed was an ex bomb disposal expert (6 fingers and 1 thumb left) and had used a pair of tilt vibration switches from a couple of IED's that he had defused by the roadside! He was one of the funniest yet most resourceful guys I have ever met. Citroen could learn a lot from that guy  ;) Quote
