Guest tori Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I have a 52 reg 1.4 Auto that I bought a couple of months ago. I love it and it normally runs fine, but in the last few weeks it has developed a strange habit. I will be driving along quite happily and all of a sudden the sports and ice mode icons will start flashing together and the 'D' to indicate Drive disappears off the dash. I can't switch the modes off, and I have to stop the car, switch off the ignition and switch it on again (the old fail safe - if in doubt swithc it off and switch it on again!). It doesn't seem to affect performance and to add to the wierdness it only happens on the same ten yard stretch of road!!! :) Any ideas what is causing this?? Quote
stimulator Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 What else is there on that piece of road, TV/radio transmitter, mobile phone tX, airfield radar TX, car counter wires under road for traffice lights? Quote

Not a lot to be honest! There is a property with electric gates and the road runs along side a business park. Do you think it could be a signal interfering? Is just off a roundabout too, so there could be car counter wires. Quote
CE08LDB Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 My Brothers last car 2003 52 Reg C3 1.4i SX Auto started like that then it got worse and the Gearbox had finally packed up. Quote
raveydavey Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 It's very wierd that it only happens in the same place though... You say it's just off a roundabout - I wonder if there is a layer of diesel or similar on the road surface (buses and waggons are terrible for this - ask any biker!) making it a bit slippery just as you put the power down and it's confusing the ECU? Guest tori Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Just in case it happens to anyone else, turned out to be a gearbox fault. I am having all the electrovalves replaced. £500 - great. Quote
