myke Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 My 04 1.9D which has 44,000 miles on the clock has developed a knocking noise at the front end. It is evident when going over a rough road or speed humps. It is, I think, coming from the NS front suspension. As yet I havent jacked it up to look. I suspect the strut or a drop link on the anti-roll bar or similar. Is there a history for these kind of problems? Quote
myke Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 I have now checked the strut and anti-roll bar and cannot find anything. It now appears to be coming from the LH side of the front bulkhead, low down but can I see or feel anything? Can I 'ek. No ideas anyone? Quote
Newbee Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Hi Myke, any further with your noise problem as I'm looking to go to either to an exhaust place or garage don't know which one will rip me off the worst! Newbee Quote
myke Posted June 19, 2008 Author Posted June 19, 2008 After much checking, finally took it to the dealer who identified it immediately as the near side drop link. Couldnt detect it myself but they knew!!! £61.06 supply and fit. Quote

Just back form the exhuast place apart from a broken bracket (weld) it seems ok I take it a drop link is a anti roll bar as there is some movement on the drivers side. Quote

The drop link connects the end of the anti roll bar to the strut. (one on each side) Quote

(one on each side) Hi Myke, just had my noise problem fixed, Yep, it was a drop link bar on the drivers side and he fixed the broken weld exhaust joint, £35 cash!, Arnold Clark quoted £40 for the part alone! Yes, I was charged £30 for the component plus the cost of two nuts. Quote
solo1874 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Hi Myke, had the same myself a couple of years ago, bought the drop down links (I decided if one was gone then do them both) from a seller on Ebay. No not original equipment, more sturdy and up to the job and no more problem since. However if it does the same again I will still buy from the Ebay seller as my understanding is they are a fairly common problem. Even my previous Micra suffered the same from drop links, drove me mad! Obviously a note of caution, I wouldn't recommend this route if your Berlingo is still under Warranty. This is my first day here, seeing all the problems I'm now worried! My indicators have the self cancelling after turning right to flashing left but I just keep an eye on things and cancel when required. Nice to see you all here, my wife loves our 1.9 Desire, I did ! :o RegardsJohn Quote
