Guest jpt Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 hi all i am new to this but not citroens have had 2 cxs 3 bxs and now on a 02 hdi 110.i have had my c5 now for 5 months and the other day i noticed a leak from the passenger side rear suspension unit , this is a constant drip when the suspension is put to max height and then lowerd to normal it takes about 6 hours for the leak to stop , any other time it just looks damp hence my reason for checking it out. It seems to drip from the plastic boot which the return and breather pipe come from seaping under the retaining clip. I assume a new unit would be required, unless anyone else has any ideas , but also how do i release the system pressure? Any advice would be much appreciated . Quote
myglaren Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I had the same symptoms but to a far less severe degree, had the gaiter replaced last week. Mine has been weeping gently for a few months now. As he did a few other bits and bobs and some investigative work I couldn't quote a realistic price for just that but in the region of £20 would be close, including the gaiter, which had split in the same place as yours. Guest jpt Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 thanks very much for that , just to let you know the leak is only bad when moving the suspension up and down , which we had been doing alot over the weekend , but now it is a slight weep and every now and again you can see a penny size drip mark on the floor. Hope it is only the gaiter , carnt find a answer as how to take pressure of system. Quote
myglaren Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 As far as I can determine the suspension ram is designed to leak - into the gaiter. The two hoses attached to the gaiter use the pumping action as the suspension rises and falls to return the fluid to the reservoir. The fluid is not under pressure (or you would have gallons of it on the floor under the car) other than that generated by the gaiter flexing. Your's must be much more badly torn than mine was to dump such quantities of fluid. Quote
